Researchers estimate that more than 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced since the early 1950s. About 60% of that plastic has ended up in either a landfill or the natural environment. 99% of plastics are made from chemicals derived from oil, natural gas, and coal — all of which are non-renewable resources.
If current trends continue, our oceans could contain more plastic than fish, and the plastic industry could account for 20% of the world's total oil consumption by 2050.
Astrum Group's core business is to develop European production plants for chemical recirculation of plastic waste and processing that waste into sustainable commodities. In that way, we are benefiting from reusing plastic waste and bringing it into the circular economy.
